New General Manager Appointed

Seasoned professional Christoph Dobson selected to lead the region’s largest wastewater utilities

Sacramento, Calif. — The Sacramento Area Sewer District (SacSewer) and Sacramento Regional County Sanitation District (Regional San) are pleased to announce the appointment of Christoph Dobson to General Manager (District Engineer), effective September 13. Dobson replaces Prabhakar Somavarapu, who recently retired after 25 years of public service.

Dobson has over 30 years of professional experience and has held several leadership positions within SacSewer and Regional San. Most recently, he served for eight years as Director of Policy and Planning, where he oversaw long-range planning efforts, regulatory and legislative affairs, high-level policy development and scientific research. Prior to that, he served for seven years as Director of SacSewer Operations, where he was responsible for maintenance and operations, safety and regulatory compliance, customer care and engineering.

In his new role, Dobson will be responsible for overseeing operations, finance, policy and planning, public affairs, and internal services for both SacSewer and Regional San. Dobson holds a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of California, Davis, and he is a registered professional engineer in the State of California.
