Sonny Lunde Appointed as Director of EchoWater Operations

Lunde brings over 20 years of industry experience and leadership

Sacramento, Calif.— The Sacramento Area Sewer District (SacSewer) Board of Directors appointed Sonny Lunde as the Director of EchoWater Operations in June 2024 following an extensive nationwide search.

As the Director of EchoWater Operations, Lunde will oversee the operations, maintenance, engineering, construction programs, and laboratory services at the EchoWater Resource Recovery Facility, which is the second largest water resource recovery facility of its kind in the nation and serves more than 1.6 million people in the Sacramento region.

“During his tenure, Sonny has excelled in his roles at SacSewer and has developed a reputation for effectively engaging employees from a wide range of disciplines and groups within our organization,” said Christoph Dobson, SacSewer General Manager. “Lunde will join our executive management team and be instrumental in helping shape the future of the EchoWater Facility.”

Lunde’s promotion brings 22 years of experience with SacSewer, including five years of management experience in the Operations and Engineering departments. Most recently, Lunde has served as the Operations and Management Manager II, providing oversight and direction for state-certified operators responsible for ensuring continuous 24/7 operations at the EchoWater Facility. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from California State University, Sacramento, and has been a registered professional engineer in the State of California since 2004.

“I am honored to join the SacSewer executive team as Director of EchoWater Operations,” said Lunde. “I look forward to continue collaborating with the talented staff at the EchoWater Facility to provide reliable sewage treatment services and to lead the District into a new era for resource recovery as we expand our biosolids, biogas, and water recycling operations.”

Lunde succeeds Glenn Bielefelt, who is retiring in July after 30 years of service to SacSewer, including four years as Director of EchoWater Operations. SacSewer thanks Bielefelt for his contributions and dedication to the District and wishes him the best in retirement.
